To
load maps from a MapSource CDROM or DVD into a compatible GARMIN
GPS unit, you must first install the MapSource program on your
PC and then create a Map Set consisting of one or more
detailed maps selected from the MapSource Graphic Map Viewer.
Creating
a Map Set:
1. Select Map located in the Tools Menu.
2. From the pull-down menu in the View Toolbar near the top
of the MapSource window select the MapSource product from which
you wish to load maps. [MetroGuide Canada V4 has been selected
in the top image on the right, TOPO Canada in the second image,
and MetroGuide North America in the third.]**
3. Using the mouse, place the Map Tool cursor inside a boundary
area. The area will become outlined in yellow.
4. Click inside the map boundary to add it to the Map Set. To
select a number of segments from one MapSource product, click
on each segment in turn, or click-and-drag over a number of adjacent
segments to create a rectangular area (such as the grey rectangle
in the TOPO Canada image); segments that are included (in whole
or in part) within that rectangle will be added to the Map Set.
Selected
maps will now be shaded pink.
5.
Repeat Steps 2 - 4 until you have built a Map Set that includes
ALL the maps that you want to have loaded in your GPS. It is important
to note that each map download starts by erasing ALL previously
loaded maps, so it is not possible to add maps to those already
loaded; each Map Set must be loaded in its entirety.
6. Check or uncheck the "Include route calculation data"
box near the bottom left of the window according to your requirements.
When
you add a map to the Map Set, the Name, MapSource product, and
Size of the map are shown in the Maps Tab List on the left. At
the bottom of the Maps Tab List, you will see the number of maps
that have been selected and the required memory for the Map Set.
The
MapSource data that you have loaded determines the geographical
map boundaries. Each product has different boundary areas. When
the Map Tool is placed inside a boundary area, that area will
become outlined in yellow
**
If you create a Map Set that includes maps from different disks
and you do not have all the map data loaded onto your hard drive,
MapSource will prompt you to change disks in your drive when downloading
the maps to your GPS.
