GARMIN MAPSOURCE
MapSource
products provide geographic data in a DVD-ROM
or CD-ROM format that can be viewed on your computer. Map
detail contained on most of these disks can be viewed with
Garmin's MapSource
Map Viewer.
The
biggest advantages of MapSource products, over an SD
card format,
are:
• you
are able to update the maps (when new updates are released)
• there
is more data included for the price, e.g. Europe versus Alps
region on SD
Additionally,
some GARMIN units can accept map downloads from various
MapSource products to augment the detail already on your
GARMIN GPS basemap. The GPS can connected directly to
the computer with the PC interface cable and user-selected
map sections can be downloaded. Some units require a data
card for
download. Data card download can also be performed very rapidly
using the USB Data Card Programmer.

All
MapSource products include the trip and waypoint manager functions
for transferring waypoints, routes, and tracks. Maps with routes
marked can be printed out for reference if you wish and you can
also permanently store your unit's waypoints on your PC, and/or
edit them on your PC and then reload them back into your GPS receiver.
COMPATIBILITY: MapSource is compatible with all the GARMIN GPS systems we sell.
Trip and waypoint planning is possible for all models; however,
the map transfer feature is compatible only with models containing
an internal basemap. Additional "Map
features" can be created for download to both mapping
and non-mapping models to supplement MapSouce detail.

mapping works with which GPS units?
Q: How
do I select maps from a MapSource product to load to
my GPS?
A: Use the MapSource Map Tool to create a map set. Click here for details.
Q: Can I download maps from more than one MapSource
product at a time to my GPS?
A: Yes!! Click
here for details.
Q: What is the difference between a 7 digit unlock
registration code and an 8 digit coupon code?
A: These two codes serve the same basic purpose.
Which one you receive depends on the product you purchase.
If you buy a stand alone MapSource product, it comes with
an eight digit "original" (o) coupon code. You then redeem
this for a 25 digit unlock code. However, if you buy, for
example, a StreetPilot 2610, it will come prepackaged with
City Navigator software. Inside this package, a 7 digit
registration code along with your 25 digit unlock code will
be provided on a yellow unlock sheet. In either case, after
you use the Garmin unlock system once, your 7 digit registration
code, or your 8 digit coupon code becomes your "Garmin Customer
Code". |
