Okay, It's An Exciting GPS Month...

There are so many new product releases - where to start with this smorg? Delorme has a new Earthmate PN-60W with SPOT Satellite Messenger. It's kind of historic there, sending PERSONAL messages from a handheld unit that has SOS safety features. Speaking of SPOT Satellite Messenger, have you seen the SPOT 2? It's 2/3 the size of the original, with some serious advanced features.

Garmin has brand new products in its classic 60 series and 70 series lines: GPSMAP 62, 62s with compass and barometric altimeter and 62st with pre-loaded US or Canada topo...... In stock! >> the floating GPSMAP 78, 78s and 78sc with US coastal maps.

The new nuvi 295W has WiFi... ? Yes! It has connectivity for full desktop HTML browser, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, .jpg and .pdf viewing, with loads of options for e-mail and location browsing (thanks to its typical robust Garmin/Navteq POI 'Points Of Interest' database). Check out the calculator, calendar, checklists and more. **3MP CAMERA with auto focus!** As exciting as it is, the nuvi 295W is not yet approved for sale in Canada.

These are the slim nuvis, the 3700 series (9mm!). Now THAT is slickjack. They offer dual orientation capabilities for vertical and horizontal viewing on a nice 4.3" glass multi-touch screen. The nuvi 3750 has everything you'd need for auto and pedestrian navigation, including optional international maps for Europe, Mexico, China etc (see all maps on SD). The nuvi 3760T includes Bluetooth and the nuvi 3790T is voice activated!

If you want something with a little more sonar than a mapping handheld GPS, like Garmin GPSMAP 60 or 70 series units, Humminbird has cute & compact models: the 385ci Combo Kayak and 385ci Combo Portable. The Kayak is really for kayaks! See the installation video!

These Humminbird units have colour 3.5" display, GPS chartplotting with built-in UniMap and optional portable transducer. Humminbird also has some nice user-friendliness, like large digits view, Triplog, X Press Menu System and custom view selections.

ACR now has floating personal locator beacons (PLBs)! The AquaLink PLB has three levels of integrated technology - GPS positioning, a powerful 406 MHz signal and 121.5 MHz homing capability. It can quickly and accurately relay your position to a worldwide network of Search and Rescue satellites, to reduce search time and increase your chances of survival. (It’s reliable signaling technology has saved more than 25,000 lives since 1982.) AquaLink PLB View has several more features, like sending "I'm OK" messages, GPS location maps, a display screen with lat/long, operating instructions.
