The
GPSMAP 162™ offers boat owners an affordable option in fixed-mount navigation,
and
with its large display screen, mapping capabilities and rugged waterproof construction
could be equally useful in a truck, or on an ATV or snowmobile.
The
GPSMAP 162 is a combination GPS receiver and chartplotter that includes a 12 parallel
channel GPS receiver and tide prediction tables. It has a built-in Americas detailed
basemap with U.S. highways, interstates, rivers, and lakes. The GPSMAP 162 can
download up to 2.5 MB of extra map data from GARMIN's MapSource™ line of
CD-ROMs.
Physically,
the unit measures about five by six inches in size and boasts a four-level gray
FSTN LCD display with 240 x 240 pixels. Even in the dark the units are easy to
read, thanks to a backlit display.
The
GPSMap 162 with internal antenna is the model to choose for use in an open situation
where an external antenna is not required; the GPSMap 162 with GA29 antenna should
be used if a clear skyview cannot be obtained from the position where the unit
is to be mounted. If your requirements change, it is possible to convert one model
to the other by changing the bracket on the back of the unit. For automotive use
the GA26C antenna can be used.
