than five million points of interest including restaurants, lodging,
attractions, shopping, emergency services, post offices, and more.

GPS 18 includes a 12 parallel channel, WAAS-enabled sensor, available with either
a PC or USB connection. The receiver includes an integrated magnetic base and
is less than three inches in diameter.

Q: Can I use the GPS 18 USB with non-Garmin software?
A: Not directly. The GPS 18 USB produces data
ONLY in the Garmin proprietary format and so is directly
compatible ONLY with Garmin mapping products, or other
software products that can decipher Garmin protocol
such as FUGAWI
software. It cannot be used with non-Garmin software
which requires NMEA input, UNLESS ancilliary software
such as
GpsGate is
used.
Q:
Can I buy the GPS 18 USB without City Navigator to
use with NMEA mapping software and GpsGate?
A: Yes. The GPS 18 USB is
available separately.
Q:
Can I use the GPS 18 PC with non-Garmin
software?
A:
Yes. The GPS 18 PC will output data in NMEA format
that can be read by other software. The output of
the 18 PC must be changed from Garmin to NMEA to
allow this.
Q: How do I change the output of the GPS 18
PC between Garmin and NMEA?
A: Sensor Configuration Software from the Garmin
website is used to configure the GPS output. See Appendix
D of the GPS
18 Technical Specifications Manual for detail.
Q:
If I buy a GPS18USB Deluxe or GPS18PC Deluxe will
I be able to load the City Navigator* maps onto a regular handheld
autorouting GPS such as the GPSMAP 60C or GPSMAP 76C series?
A: No, Garmin no longer offers a second unlock. |
