SOFTWARE FOR GLIDERS Garmin GPS models with
a barometric altimeter offer several software features intended
to simplify navigation, competition and record keeping in a
variety of gliding sports. By visiting
the GARMIN web site customers with older systems may download
this free software update for their eTrex
Vista, GPSMAP 60CS, GPSMAP
76S, GPSMAP
76CS or VistaC. The Glide
Ratio and Glide Ratio to Destination feature uses
GPS altimeter functions to help competitors determine if they
can reach their target without passing a point of no return.
The Vertical Speed to Destination features uses GPS
altimeter functions to recommend the optimal speed to reach
a checkpoint in a gliding time trial. Additionally, the manual
route transition feature helps users to maintain an active leg
to a checkpoint. They will see an arrow pointing them in the
direction they need to make their next checkpoint and also allow
them to automatically or manually transition to the next checkpoint.
JUMPMASTER ACCESSORY GPSMAP 60CS

CITY
NAVIGATOR/CITY SELECT ON THE GPSMAP 60CS
Q: "I also own a GPS that came with City Navigator
[or City Select]. Can I use those maps on the 60CS?"
A: "Yes, you can register the GPSMAP 60CS as a
second GPS unit for use with your City Navigator or City Select
CD."
CITY
SELECT, METROGUIDE CANADA & TOPO CANADA ON THE GPSMAP
60CS
Q: "Can I use City
Select North America, MetroGuide
Canada and TOPO
Canada on the GPSMAP 60CS at the same time?"
A: "Yes, you can load maps from more than one
CD at the same time by creating a map set that consists of
map segments from each CD. However, if you have more than
one map loaded for the same area, the GPS will display maps
according to an internal hierarchy: City Select will be displayed
in preference to MetroGuide which will be displayed in preference
to TOPO [and City Nav in preference to City Select.]
METROGUIDE
AUTO-ROUTING ON THE GPSMAP 60CS
Q: "Will Canadian
MetroGuide v4 provide autorouting on the GPSMAP 60CS?"
A: [From Garmin] "Yes, Canadian MetroGuide V4
WILL provide turn by turn routing on the GPSMAP 60CS. However,
the US
MetroGuide does NOT provide turn by turn routing on a
GPS."
TIDE
DATA ON THE GPSMAP 60CS
Q: "Will the GPSMAP 60CS support tide data?"
A: [From Garmin] "The 60CS will not have tide
data in the basic hardware, but anytime a customer downloads
Blue Chart
data, they will get tide information for that area. We
are moving in this direction so that we do not take up memory
for users who only use the system on land and this will also
make it easier for the tide data to be updated when the customer
updates their Blue Chart data"
USB
GPS / PC Compatibility
Q: "I have connected my USB GPS unit to the
PC but the USB GPS device does not show up in the "Save To"
or "Send To" dialog boxes within MapSource. What is wrong?"
A: Click
here for Garmin's FAQ user tips
GPSMAP
60CS & GPSMAP 76CS DIFFERENCES
Q: "What are the main differences between the GPSMAP
60CS and the GPSMAP 76CS?"
A: "Internal map memory (the 60CS has 56MB
for map storage, the 76CS has 115MB; physical size &
shape; tide prediction (the 60CS supports tide
data from BlueChart CDs, it is built in to the 76CS); floatability
(the 60CS will not float, the 76CS will)."
