for download.)
Ozi's
ease of use makes it the ideal planning tool for many outdoor pursuits such as
boating, 4x4, ATV, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, hiking, etc. OziExplorer is
also a very useful field tool and is utilized in Canada by people in environmental consulting, forestry & natural resources, farming, search & rescue, law enforcement, oil & gas etc. to dramatically
extend the usefulness of GPS in the field.
Key
Features
Easy to use Windows interface allows you to upload and download
waypoints, tracks, and routes to and from most types of hand
held GPS receivers. OziExplorer will work with GARMIN, Magellan,
Lowrance, Eagle and MLR GPS receivers for the upload & download
of GPS data. Digital maps used with OziExplorer cannot
be transferred to GPS units.
OziExplorerCE can be used with CE devices with an attached GPS
for portable moving map capability.
Pre-plan
your next trip on a digital version of your favorite topo map, then load your
waypoints, routes, or tracks to your GPS for in-field navigation. After the trip
download your GPS data and update the map to show all the roads and trails you've
used plus your new waypoints.
OziExplorer imports many types of digital imagery such as Spectrum
Digital Imaging Topo maps, Digital
Ocean Nautical charts, Etopo Digital Maps, Maptech
marine charts, plus air photos & satellite images (.tfw / geotiff)
Scout out new areas using Ozi's real time moving map and your laptop PC. GPS feeds
your current position to the PC which displays it on the digital map allowing
you to track new roads as you drive them. OziExplorerCE
can be used with CE devices with an attached GPS for portable moving map capability.
Customize
your digital maps by adding text, symbols, and coordinate labels. Then print a
hard copy for your next field trip or e-mail it to a friend.
Miscellaneous
Tools:
- Create multiple tracks or routes and compare
the length of each
- Measure distances between map
features or waypoints
- Quick and easy area calculations
- Import / export to .txt and .shp
Track in real time and view your position on the moving map display with a GPS
that outputs NMEA 0183 data.
OziExplorer3D is add on software which
allows map images to be viewed in 3D with the ability to rotate in all directions
and zoom in and out of the view. OziExplorer3D requires a purchased copy of OziExplorer
to operate fully.
Requirements
A PC running Windows 95/98/ME/XP/NT4/2000
OziExplorerCE can be used with CE devices: Handheld (HPC,
HPC Pro), Palm sized (PPC) and PocketPC devices are supported
with Windows CE versions 2.0 onwards (full copy of OziExplorer
PC is also required). [No
Palm version is planned at this stage.]
Any GPS receiver which outputs
NMEA 0183 sentences can be used for moving map (real time tracking) mode.
Serial
cable to connect your GPS to the PC serial port
Maps of your particular area of the world which you purchase in digital form or
can scan and calibrate yourself from paper charts.
Digital Maps to use with OziExplorer
Spectrum Digital Imaging digitized topographic
maps are scans of Federal topo maps that
have already been calibrated to work with Ozi Explorer.
Spectrum
Digital Imaging digitized marine charts are scans of American Marine Charts
that have already been calibrated to work with Ozi Explorer.
Digital
Ocean electronic charts are formatted to the BSB V3.0 specification and can
be imported directly into OziExplorer for marine navigation.
Etopo Digital Maps are Canadian topographic
maps in digital raster format. They are pre-calibrated for OziExplorer as well
as for Memory Map and Fugawi GPS moving map
software.

OziExplorer
3D & Elevation Data
OziExplorer 3D Map Viewer allows map images to be viewed in
3D with the ability to rotate in all directions and zoom in
and out of the view. Requires OziExplorer for creation
of 3D maps. Elevation data for 1:250,000 is included on
the CD and instructions are provided for how to download free
1:50,000 data from the www.geobase.ca
website.
This
elevation data has the following specifications: The Canadian Digital Elevation
Data (CDED) consists of an ordered array of ground elevations at regularly spaced
intervals. The source digital data for CDED is extracted from the hypsographic
and hydrographic elements of the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) at scales
of 1:50 000 and 1:250 000 or various scaled positional data acquired from the
provinces and territories.
The
coverage for each CDED file corresponds to half an NTS (National Topographic System)
map sheet. CDED, is comprised of a Western and an Eastern section, for each NTS
map. Depending on the latitude of the CDED section, the grid spacing (based on
geographic coordinates) vary in resolution from 0.75 to 3 arc seconds for the
1:50 000 NTS tiles, and from 3 to 12 arc seconds for the 1:250 000 NTS tiles respectively.
A CDED file consists of elevation data relative to Mean Sea Level (MSL), based
on the North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) horizontal reference datum.
