Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the recommended installation height?
A: Approximately 1.5 meters (5 ft), which is the factory tuning reference.

Q: Can I install KC4 on a rooftop or tower?
A: Yes. KC4 can be installed on rooftops, poles, or towers. However, installation height will affect resonance, and retuning is usually required after installation.

Q: Will installation height affect performance?
A: Yes. Changes in height can shift the resonance frequency and SWR. Always check and adjust after installation.

Q: Do I need guy ropes?
A: Normally not required. For windy environments, insulated ropes can be used. Avoid using metal materials.

Q: Does KC4 require radials or grounding?
A: KC4 does not require traditional ground radials. However, proper grounding or a counterpoise can help improve stability and reduce noise.

Q: Do I need an antenna tuner (ATU)?
A: No. KC4 is designed to be resonant on all supported bands. However, a tuner can be used for fine adjustment if needed.

Q: What is the maximum power rating?
A: Up to 500W CW under optimal conditions.
For long-term use, we recommend ≤200W CW and ≤100W for digital modes.

Q: Are all bands resonant?
A: Yes. When properly tuned, KC4 operates as a resonant antenna on all supported bands and typically does not require an external tuner.

Q: Why does SWR increase during rain?
A: This is normal. Moisture on the antenna temporarily affects its electrical characteristics. Once dry, SWR usually returns to normal.

Q: My SWR is high — what should I check?
– All bands high → Check assembly, coax cable, and connectors
– Only one band high → Check tuning and related components for that band
– SWR changed after installation → Retuning is required
– SWR changes with weather → This is normal

Q: What should I keep in mind during tuning?
A: Make adjustments in small increments (a few millimeters to 1 cm) and re-measure SWR after each step. Avoid large adjustments, as they may cause overshooting the target frequency.

Q: What should I pay attention to during installation?
– Keep the antenna away from large metal objects
– Avoid installing too close to walls or railings
– Ensure all connections are securely tightened
– Re-check SWR after installation changes
