The
GPSMAP 168 Sounder is a combination GPS receiver and chartplotter
which includes a depth-finder. The unit also contains an impressive
list of features including a powerful 12 parallel channel GPS
receiver and tide prediction tables.
Featuring
a built-in worldwide basemap with U.S. highways, interstates,
rivers, and lakes, the GPSMAP 168 Sounder also can download up
to 2.5 MB of extra map data from GARMIN's MapSource line of CD-ROMs.
Physically,
the unit resembles GARMIN's popular Fishfinder 240. It measures
about five by six inches in size and has a four-level gray FSTN
LCD display with 240 x 240 pixels. Even in the dark the unit is
easy to read, thanks to a backlit display.
Additionally,
the GPSMAP 168 Sounder has a 150-watt depth-finder. The unit features
GARMIN's exclusive See-Thru technology which will help separate
fish returns from thermoclines and structure. Also,
a graphic whiteline on the GPSMAP 168 Sounder provides a clear
image of both bottom hardness and structure.
NOTE:
A transducer is required for operation of the GPSMAP 168 Sounder.
A 200KHz, 20 deg, plastic, transom mount transducer with depth
and temperature is supplied with some GPSMAP 168 Sounder models.
If you wish to use another type of transducer you could purchase
the GPSMAP 168 Sounder without a transducer (010- 010-00199-02
or 010-00202-02) and pair it with one of GARMIN's range of single-frequency
transducers. Click
