GPSMap 540 series feature bright 5" QVGA color displays and
come ready to launch right out of the box with built-in cartography,
new worldwide satellite imagery, and a new streamlined user interface.
Like all Garmin plotters, these utilize WAAS/EGNOS-enabled GPS receivers
for extreme high accuracy (typically within 3 meters).
The 540 series is preloaded with highly-detailed BlueChart?
g2T marine cartography of the coastal United States - including
Alaska, Hawaii and the Bahamas. This data provides detailed
coastlines, shaded depth contours, navaids, port plans, wrecks,
restricted areas and tide and current information. The powerful
built-in analog sounder found in the 540s can scan as deep as 1500'
(in dual frequency mode) and features UltraScrollT for high-speed
screen updates. The GPSMap 540s also offers split-screen
viewing of map and sounder data for easy, continuous reference.
See real-time weather displayed on the 540 series' high-resolution,
sunlight readable display with the purchase
of the GXM 31 antenna (sold separately) and subscription to
XM WX Satellite Weather. View vital weather data such as NEXRAD
radar, storm cells, wind speeds, surface temperatures, forecasts
and more than a dozen other weather attributes directly on the unit's
Plug in optional
BlueChart? g2 VisionT cards to add true 3D-view detailed mapping
capabilities (both above and below the waterline), plus helpful
auto guidance, high-resolution photomapping detail, and "real picture"
aerial photos of ports, harbors, marinas, waterways, navigation
landmarks and other points of interest.

All the new Garmin chartplotters feature basic worldwide satellite
imagery for a realistic "view from space" depiction. With
optional g2 Vision cards, these images are upgraded to super
high-detail aerial photomapping. It's the most realistic map
you've ever seen on a graphical chartplotter. And you can navigate
'on the picture' with a clear dynamic presentation of your boat's
Auto Guidance. The optional Auto Guidance technology,
unlocked via g2 Vision card, searches chart contents to suggest
the safest known charted route for navigation.
True 3D-view mapping. Garmin's newest chartplotters wil
graphically depict true 3D "mariner's eye" topside
view or "fish eye" underwater view navigation perspective
for tricky shoals, reefs, bridges, channels etc.
Picture" Photo Reference. Aerial photography gives
mariners a realistic visual overview of harbours, marinas, waterways
and other points of reference. The photos allow a visual reference
for nearby fuel pumps, dining spots, lodging and shore-side
facilities. Also included is City Navigator North America NT
road data for navigation up to five miles inland.
