Garmin eTrex Vista

The Garmin eTrex Vista has been discontinued and replaced with the eTrex Vista H. See more Garmin handheld GPS units here>>

The Garmin eTrex Vista contains 24 megabytes of internal memory, an electronic compass which provides bearing information while you are standing still and a barometric altimeter to determine your precise altitude and provide a graphic profile of your trip.

eTrex Vista GPS receiver contains a built-in Americas Highway basemap. [NOTE: We are able to supply the Americas basemap mode only. Vista units available outside North America may contain the Atlantic or Pacific basemap instead.] Mapping detail is presented on a high resolution liquid crystal display (268 x 160 pixel, FSTN).

The eTrex Vista has a rocker switch on the front which allows for quick and accurate map panning, as well as selection and enter functions. As a result of new processing speed, built-in memory and the crisp, high resolution display, eTrex Vista offers full-feature navigation capabilities. Satellite status, navigation displays and mapping provide details for both the basic and advanced user. Position format may be selected including Latitude/Longitude, MGRS and Loran TDs.

A PC Interface Cable is included with the eTrex Vista, and the 24 MB of internal (non-expandable) memory allows eTrex Vista to accept downloaded map data from Garmin's entire line of MapSource CDROMs including MapSource MetroGuide which offers residential street-level detail, addresses and points of interest.

waas enabled The Vista can provide position accuracy to less than 3 metres when receiving WAAS corrections.
bluechart compatible The Vista now has limited compatibility with BlueChart Marine Cartography on CDROM! A firmware upgrade may be required.

• The Vista version 2.18 software update added a new accessory to calculate the area of a track. The area of a saved track is displayed on the track detail page.

Marine navigational aids (Americas Marine Points of Interest) are pre-loaded into the built-in user memory each unit from the factory (not part of the basemap).
If MapSource data is loaded to the Vista, the preloaded Marine POI database will be erased. To recover this data the Preloaded Map Database file can be downloaded from GARMIN's web site.
MapSource data and POI data from the GARMIN web site cannot be loaded at the same time.
Points of Interest data from the MapSource Points of Interest CDROM CAN be used in combination with maps from other MapSource products.

Customer Comments: "My experience with the Vista has been nothing short of amazing. As an avid hunter and sportsman, I thought that I had a pretty good sense of direction. But after hunting in a totally different area of Alberta, and being stuck out in the wilderness until after dark one night, the Vista brought me straight back to camp, and prevented an unwanted, cold, sleepless night in the woods." -Jim

Basemap: The version of the eTrex Vista sold in North America contains the Americas Highway basemap. We are not able to supply units with an Atlantic or Pacific basemap

ENHANCING THE ETREX VISTA DISPLAY: User "map features" can be created on a PC for download to enhance the display! Click here for suggestions.

What are the differences?

SOFTWARE FOR GLIDERS Garmin GPS models with a barometric altimeter offer several software features intended to simplify navigation, competition and record keeping in a variety of gliding sports. By visiting the GARMIN web site customers with older systems may download this free software update for their eTrex Vista, GPSMAP 60CS, GPSMAP 76S, GPSMAP 76CS or VistaC. The Glide Ratio and Glide Ratio to Destination feature uses GPS altimeter functions to help competitors determine if they can reach their target without passing a point of no return. The Vertical Speed to Destination features uses GPS altimeter functions to recommend the optimal speed to reach a checkpoint in a gliding time trial. Additionally, the manual route transition feature helps users to maintain an active leg to a checkpoint. They will see an arrow pointing them in the direction they need to make their next checkpoint and also allow them to automatically or manually transition to the next checkpoint.
Since Vista Version 2.41 a Jumpmaster accessory (intended for trained military jumpmasters) has been included in Vista software. Download the latest Vista software. Download Jumpmaster pdf
